ARTIST STATEMENT
Betty Klooster Tyler received her degree in art from Central Michigan University. She began painting and drawing at an early age while growing up on the family farm outside Charlevoix, Michigan
Tyler's work has been exhibited in the Midwest, as well as nationally and in Germany. Her work is in collections in the U.S., Germany, Japan, and Central America. Her work has been compared by some to Georgia O'Keeffe and though she does not deny O'Keeffe's influence she gives much credit to her parent's love of gardening and growing flowers. Tyler developed a love of nature and learned the names of many wildflowers from her parents. At various times they raised gladiolas, mums, and roses for their beauty and for sale. She fondly remembers how every year each child (she is one of six siblings) was allowed to choose one packet of seed which they would plant and care for. Her love of flowers and gardening has stayed with her ever since.
Tyler maintains a studio in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan where she and her husband, Don reside. They have two children, Henry and Tegan, and a pretty wonderful dog.
